Leaping Forward is a combination of two series of photos I've made in between the end of the year 2019 and the beginning of 2020. This first part, Leaping Forward I, is composed of shots taken in Japan (Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka). It's a witness of my understanding of a culture towards which I felt like a complete stranger. By going on my own, I dived into this feeling of loneliness in order to lose all sorts of landmarks and preconceptions. It is the first part of a personal process to discover more of myself: getting far away to get closer, which is the basic paradox of travel. The eye of the stranger is detached from the meaning that can be accorded to objects, behaviours and things in general. By pulling oneself out of the understanding of meaning, one creates its own in result, and a truly esthetic form can arise.
